North Vancouver boxer Jonathan Hannah fought his way onto the podium this week at the Canada Winter Games.

Hannah earned a bronze medal in the men's 75-kilogram division with a 4-1 decision over Manitoba’s Mohammed Makhlouf Wednesday at Westerner Park in Red Deer, Alta. Hannah went 3-1 in the event, scoring a pair of 5-0 victories over the same boxer, Estéban Nadeau of Quebec, while losing a semifinal against Alberta’s Janick Lacroix, who went on to earn silver.

“I feel good,” Hannah stated in a Team B.C. release after his win in the consolation final. “Boxing wasn't too bad and I was a little tired and got a bit sloppy, but I managed to pull through. It feels so good." Hannah was coached at the Games by North Vancouver’s Dave Brett, who is also his coach (and gym owner) at Griffins Boxing Club.

The Games run Feb. 15 to March 3 in Red Deer.
