Griffins boxers clean up at provincial championships

Fighters from North Vancouver’s Griffins Boxing Club knocked out eight gold medals and one bronze at the provincial championships held in Abbotsford Dec. 7-9.

Jonathan Hannah won the 75 kilogram youth male open title, earning himself a trip to the Canada Winter Games scheduled for Feb. 15 to March 3 in Red Deer. Other provincial open division winners included Nyousha Nakhjiri in the 52 kg senior female open division; Emma Suttle in the 54 kg open female division; Aaron Madriaga in the 75 kilogram junior B open division; and Senija Muric in the 69 kg senior open female division.

All open division winners earned a spot at the national championships scheduled for April in Victoria. Dan Yelton earned a bronze medal in the 81 kg male senior open division.

Gold medal winners in novice divisions included William Veroni in the 42 kg male junior B novice division; Luke Heras in the 50 kg male junior B novice division; and Dan Dufour in the 64 kg male senior novice division.
