The men’s and women’s Capilano University soccer teams will both face the same foes as they attempt to claim the PacWest title at the provincial championship tournament this weekend at Burnaby Lake Sports Complex West.

Both Blues teams finished third in their four-team leagues, each earning a playoff semi-final game against the second-place Douglas College Royals.

The Blues women started slowly in league play, going winless through their first six games before getting hot in the second half of the season with five wins and one tie in their final six. The Blues and Royals will play Friday starting at 2:30 p.m., with the winner moving on to face the first-place Vancouver Island University Mariners in the championship game Saturday.

On the men’s side the Blues played win, lose or draw all year, finishing the season with a 4-4-4 record, four points back of the 6-4-2 Royals. The two teams will play Friday at noon with the winner moving on to play VIU in Saturday’s final.

Capilano’s Adrian Sahagun, a third-year forward from Mexico, led the league with eight goals in 12 games this season. The Blues men won the PacWest title last year and went on to finish fourth at the CCAA national championships.
