For $8.5 million you can buy this Dutch-style Vancouver house with an unusual interior (PHOTOS)

It's only been owned by two families in nearly 100 years.

While there are homes with more unusual interior design choices, this may be the most unusual interior architecture in a Vancouver home.

The house, at 4987 Connaught Drive, is a Dutch Colonial Revival-style structure. From the outside, the Shaugnessy home is interesting, if not stunning, with a slightly barn-like roof. It's a big house, with nearly 7,000 square feet of space inside, including six bedrooms and five bathrooms.

Inside, though, things are a little more unusual. First, the interior design here looks very much appropriate for the era the house was built in (1925), but it's the design of the structure itself that's more eye-catching, with curved ceilings, stained glass windows between rooms, and lots of hardwood.

Of particular note is a balcony overlooking the "castle-like Great Hall" and an absolutely massive living room (it's nearly 1,000 square feet, bigger than many apartments in Vancouver).

Much of it looks like a museum in New England capturing the turn of the century. That may be due in part to the fact that in its 97-year history only two families have lived there.

In addition to the unusual design, there's also a terrace outside that overlooks a full tennis court. Downstairs there's also a billiards room.
