LETTER: Tip of the hat for digging into sewage

Dear editor:

I’d like to congratulate the North Shore News and reporter Jane Seyd on her July 5, 2019 story on the North Shore Wastewater Treatment Plant.

article continues below

No local newspapers, other than the North Shore News, have reported on this complex issue, which is unsettling given its cost (~$800 million) and potential effect on North Shore citizens and marine environment.

The next nearest community newspaper (Vancouver Courier) has been silent on this, while the major newspapers and TV media seem to focus on where professional athletes may or may not play, and ignore this important local issue.

I am very pleased that the North Shore News has the editorial wisdom to inform North Shore residents on what is important vs. reporting ephemeral fluff.

With factual investigative reporters like Jane Seyd, it is clear why the North Shore News routinely receives so many national reporting awards.

Please keep up the great reporting.

Ken Ashley
