Dear editor:

Thank you to the firefighters of the Lynn Valley [North Vancouver District Fire and Rescue] fire hall who volunteered to rescue a stray cat out of our Douglas fir after it was stuck for three days and three nights.

According to neighbours, this cat has been seen in the Princess Park/Braemar neighbourhood for years. We don’t know who it belongs to. Neighbours call it “Smokey.”

After the ordeal, the cat was in good shape and immediately devoured a portion of cat food and water.

It was not easy to get to the cat, as it was just a little higher than the ladder reached.

Several options were discussed — to catch it in a shopping bag, or a wastepaper basket, or a laundry basket, or on the ground in a blanket. Finally, one of the guys just climbed up as if it was nothing, grabbed it by the neck, and brought it down. As simple as that!

We appreciate that the fire department went above and beyond their duty to rescue this small animal.
