Dear Editor:

Re: ‘You Get What You Pay For’: Mayor on Spending, Sept. 12 news story.

I was surprised to see in (last week’s Wednesday) edition that we are one of the highest taxed per capita in Metro Vancouver, even higher than the District of North Vancouver where the infrastructure within that district appears better maintained than West Vancouver’s. Case in point is the absence of needed line painting on a great number of our roadways.

I suggest council have an audit performed by independent expertise into the municipality’s public works and administration practices and expenditures.

It’s no doubt difficult for council to undertake a critical assessment of municipal expenditures and I think relying on those spending the money to do so is too much to expect in terms of objectivity and considering alternative approaches such as contracting out, etc.
