Thank you for your excellent editorial. I agree wholeheartedly with your commentary, particularly with your observation that “the province needs to give municipalities more power to protect our heritage than what currently amounts to hand wringing and begging. Owning a piece of history should come with a responsibility to preserve it.”

Growing up in Montréal, I was surrounded by magnificent, old buildings, many of them designated heritage structures. The West Coast style was already being discussed when I was a fine arts and art history student at university there in the 1970s, and I am glad to see that Vancouverites are getting up to speed on this. This is part of our history.
