Dear editor:

Am I the only one who slows down to 30 kilometres per hour in school zones?

I drive past Carson Graham Secondary School two to three times a week, both coming and going up to Lonsdale and back home.

Almost every time, the cars in front of me don't slow down, and the cars behind me stay close to my bumper.  I even had one fellow give me the one fingered salute, as if I was slowing down only to irritate him.

We really need to give drivers tickets!

I have the same scenario on Keith Road by St. Thomas Aquinas school.  Cars go speeding by me, especially heading down the hill.  There needs to be a blitz on to catch the constant speeders.

Now, the two schools I've mentioned are high schools where, presumably, the students are intelligent enough not to walk into traffic.

But when heading up past St. Thomas Aquinas, drivers also rarely slow down for the elementary school zone when they get up to Queen Mary Elementary.

It seems silly to waste the time and talent of our police officers just to give out tickets.  It's such a shame that the auxiliary police couldn't do that.  Or even the community policing staff.
