Dear editor:

At 2 p.m. on May 15, Todd Mader of Miller Capilano Highway Services Ltd. saved my life.

Finding myself within three metres of a grizzly and a kilometer from anyone else, was not at all as scary as breaking down on the Sea-to-Sky with no power for four-way flashers or to move my tiny collector car out of the way of oncoming trucks.

I had no way of warning them I was stopped. All I could do is watch them barrelling up behind me, and brace myself for what would be life-altering injury if not death. Thank god for Todd noticing me and positioning a Miller Capilano vehicle behind me to provide a warning to oncoming traffic. He sat with me to calm me down until BCAA arrived.

Thank-you also to BCAA highway workers who kept me updated, and took excellent care of “Maxwell” (my ol’ beamer) and me.

While we rush to our events this summer, perhaps we could take time to watch for others in need and be grateful for the highway workers who keep us safe.
