Dear Editor:

The B.C. government’s refusal to expedite ridesharing in B.C. was a minor annoyance to us until (a recent) weekend when we found ourselves stranded twice in West Vancouver for at least 25 minutes each time as we waited for a taxi.

With Uber or Lyft, we could have avoided this irritating situation. The North Shore has poor transportation options, and ridesharing offers an immediate solution to the problem. We do not buy the provincial government’s excuses about safety, policy, insurance, etc. Many (or most) major cities in North America already offer this wonderful convenience. The government must stop bending to the will of the taxi lobby, and stop dragging its feet on this matter.

I should add that the people I know in their 20s and 30s are especially keen to see Uber and Lyft adopted in B.C. They will express their displeasure with the provincial government’s failure during the next election.
