LETTER: North Van salmon art a welcome fixture

Dear editor:

Early in January, a friend and I walked on the Mission Creek trail [in the City of North Vancouver]. Near where it disappears under Keith Road, there was a charming wooden sculpture of a salmon affixed to a log across the creek. We enjoyed this gift of public art by an anonymous artist.

Sadly, when I went by the spot yesterday, it was gone, ripped off by an anonymous thief. However, here is a photo of the vanished sculpture, taken by Gary Ouimet, a Quebec City artist. I hope others will enjoy this image and honour the unknown artist.

Editor’s note: A City of North Vancouver spokesperson has said the city’s parks staff did not remove this piece. They suspect it was washed away in the January storms.
