LETTER: North Van concert helped with my grief

Dear editor:

One evening, shortly after losing my dad to cancer, I did something I rarely do. I read the “what’s happening on the North Shore” email that I received from North Vancouver Recreation & Culture Commission. The Gary Cable Project caught my eye. The list of bands they cover was appealing, Chicago, Steely Dan, Earth, Wind and Fire, to name a few. When I read a bit further and saw that all the proceeds were going to cancer research, I was sold.

The next day it was in the North Shore News, which confirmed my decision to get tickets. Still reeling with grief from my dad’s death due to this sinister illness, I was compelled to buy four tickets.

Wow. What a treat. The concert was fantastic.

The musicians were all incredibly talented and their passion was very evident. We were taken back in time with their playlist of ’70s and ’80s favourites.

What a pleasure to be entertained by professionals, who obviously respect each other.

I’m not sure who was having a better time: the audience or the band.

Unfortunately, the theatre wasn’t sold out.

Hopefully they’ll come back because next time I’ll bring all my friends.
