Dear Editor:

I read with interest the letters that you have received from local residents, business owners and commuters regarding the proposed Marine-Main B-Line.

It’s important for your readers to know that no final decisions have been made.

District of West Vancouver transit users, residents and business owners will have another opportunity to share their views early in the new year. TransLink and the District of West Vancouver will share their engagement plans soon.

TransLink has been working closely with all three North Shore municipalities and elected officials at all levels to find ways to relieve traffic congestion.

Transit is a big part of the plan to address the problem: improving the ability of buses to move through congested corridors will encourage more people to use transit and that helps everyone using the roads.

Today, 78 per cent of employees who provide essential municipal services to West Vancouver travel in from different parts of the region. This is why it’s increasingly important for this part of the region to also have access to options like bus rapid transit.

We’ve heard both support and concerns about this B-Line and we will continue to listen and be responsive. We will support the vision for the community and will work with the District of West Vancouver to ensure we provide the right transit resources.

Any plan brought forward needs to deliver benefits for all users, and TransLink along with the District of West Vancouver are focused on getting it right.

Sarah Ross
Director, System Planning, TransLink
