Dear Editor:

Re: Businesses Bristle at B-Line Plan, Dec. 7 front-page story.

It is not just West Vancouver businesses that are bristling at the B-Line plan. Many residents are also unconvinced that the B-Line is the best solution for our transit issues.

Extending service hours and ensuring reliability of existing routes would not require dedicated lanes and removal of parking. Neither would well-co-ordinated traffic signals or rush-hour HOV lanes, or expanding service (from the already well-served Marine Drive corridor) to areas with little or no transit service through a fleet of small community shuttles.

While officials have provided assurance that the proposed changes will improve traffic flow, the lack of evidence for this is unsettling, especially given experience to the contrary.

Temporary lane closures on Marine (such as those associated with the construction of the Grosvenor development) have resulted in gridlock and diverted traffic into nearby residential areas.

The public deserves to have confidence that the proposed solution will achieve expected outcome/results. They deserve better processes and the opportunity to consider more than one option.
