Dear Editor:

Re: Delbrook Affordable Housing Rejected, Nov. 21 front-page story.

I’m not optimistic that many, if any, sensible development applications will get approved by the group of five councillors who voted against the Delbrook proposed development. More housing supply is needed and Catalyst is one of the best at doing below market housing with plenty of examples (not “untested”) of affordable past developments in Victoria (Dockside Green), Oakridge Lutheran Church, Port Moody St. Andrews Church, Main and 6th Vancouver City owned land.

At Delbrook the rental housing and respite centre are needed. Why did these councillors run to be elected if they didn’t know what is “coming down the tubes.” As for reduced energy consumption, the new Step Code will require the project to reduce energy consumption already. It’s mandated. Perfection is the enemy of progress.

Let’s get on with it District of North Vancouver council. Thank you to councillors Mathew Bond and Jordan Back for your efforts.

John Gilmour
North Vancouver
