Dear Editor:

Re: West Van Asks Oil Companies for Climate Change Cash, Jan. 9 news story.

“Council has voted 5-2 to send a letter asking the world’s 20 biggest fossil fuel companies pay their ‘fair share’ of the costs incurred upgrading municipal infrastructure to withstand climate change.”

So, five District of West Vancouver council members who voted to send the letter are not entitled to drive their cars, use public transportation, wear any clothes or eat any food? All those items are brought to them by gas-powered devices. Let’s see “the colour of their position if that happens.”

(The sale of) oil, or gas – its byproduct – does no harm to the environment. Buying it is completely optional. You don’t need to buy it and you don’t need to drive a car. If you buy it and use it, you accept the responsibility for environmental damage more than the oil companies.
