Dear editor:

I am a bus driver for Coast Mountain Bus Co.

On Sunday, Jan. 12 while driving the 229 during the snowfall, I was stopped by icy roads at 27th Street and Lynn Valley Road. I was stuck for two hours in front of a townhouse complex. While there, a resident approached my bus with a hot cup of coffee and some chocolate.

After my initial surprise, I thanked the man and his wife for their kindness and generosity. His response was a shrug and he said simply: “This is how we were raised.”

After a short period of time, he returned with a plate of cheese and crackers, and an apple as well. He commended me for being out working in such nasty weather and after a handshake he left. During my delay, two other people walking their dogs stopped at the bus to ask if I needed anything.

During this stressful time it was so nice to be shown kindness and appreciation by people whose parents obviously raised them properly. The actions are the kind we need in the face of all the unpleasantness in the recent past on our planet.

A heartfelt thank-you to the residents of Lynn Valley.
