LETTER: A camel statue in North Vancouver? Love it!

Dear Editor:

Camel – err – Dromedary.

I am enjoying our relatively new piece of public art at 13th Street and Lonsdale Avenue (The Lady, a two-metre tall bronze statue by Vancouver artist Myfanwy MacLeod). I especially like it when “My Lady” wears a Canada flag for the Olympics, or wears sunglasses, ski goggles or a toque. I loved it when she had a cigarette hanging out of her mouth, like the old Joe Camel ads – this will be lost on younger readers. This public art is as outrageous as a statue of a moose I recently saw in Ireland. Although I suspect that a moose could live in the wild in Ireland, whereas “the ship of the desert” could not survive in the wild in our wet and rainy province. I think this is one of our best public art pieces – keep ’em coming!
