Dear Editor:

As a senior citizen, mother and grandmother, I have often thought, if not said, “Kids today are not like they were in my days.”

But yesterday, I had reason to change my mind. Walking my two dogs on leash around 20th Street and Kings Avenue in West Vancouver, whilst trying to pick up after my dog, I dropped one leash. A teenage boy walking past caught him for me, then waited whilst I explained I had difficulty, as I had broken my wrist a few weeks before. He left, presumably to go to school, telling me he hoped my wrist improved and to enjoy the lovely sunny day.

I left him with a spring in my step and happiness in my heart knowing that there are many polite and kind youth here today. I wish I knew his name to praise his parents for his up bringing and to tell him that he had made my day much brighter.
