What should go into Harry Jerome, where should West Vancouver put an arts facility, and just how well is the official community plan working in the District of North Vancouver? Those questions are up for discussion Monday as all three local governments launch into one last burst of legislative action before spring break robs us of council meetings for the next two weeks

City of North Vancouver

Now armed with a recreation strategy, council is set to mull a more modest Harry Jerome rec centre with staff recommending a 26.5 metre 10-lane pool, an ice rink for skating and hockey - although not curling, a skatepark and a spot for the Silver Harbour Seniors Activity Centre as well as gyms, art spaces, and multi-purpose rooms.

West Vancouver

Council is slated to hear a report listing possible locations for the arts. Potential sites include Ambleside Park as well as the 1400 and 1600 blocks of Marine Drive. Staff are expected to report back to council with a final recommendation in June following public consultation. Council is also set to vote on final adoption of the climate emergency response bylaw.

On Tuesday night, West Vancouver is holding a public hearing on a heritage designation bylaw for the Ron Thom house at 1143 Eyremount Dr.

District of North Vancouver

Following a 5 p.m. workshop on their official community plan, council gets into their regular agenda at 7 p.m. where business is set to include a vote on the municipality’s financial plan.
