West Vancouver police are looking for witnesses to a late-night brawl that left several young people with serious injuries.

The incident happened shortly after midnight on Aug.18 in Ambleside Park. Police were called to the 800 block of Marine Drive when someone happened on a young man with head injuries – one of four victims involved in an altercation near the Peter Sullivan Skatepark a short time earlier.

“The head and facial injuries include some facial bone fractures and one or more of the victims also has some concussion symptoms,” said Const. Jeff Palmer, West Vancouver police spokesman.

Police can’t say what led to the fight or even how many suspects were involved. All of the victims and suspects were in their late teens to early 20s.

“We don’t have a very clear picture at this point of what – if anything – may have provoked the assault,” Palmer said. “There is no indication that the parties knew each other well or for that matter at all.”

Police have interviewed the victims, who are co-operating, but Palmer said investigators are hoping some of the other young people hanging around the park that night will come forward.

“We’re just hoping we can hear – either anonymously, confidentially or through Crime Stoppers – from anyone else in the hopes of advancing the investigation,” he said.
