Two of the North Shore’s Liberal MLAs have been appointed to the opposition shadow cabinet.

North Vancouver-Seymour MLA Jane Thornthwaite will serve as the party’s official critic for mental health and addictions and West Vancouver-Sea to Sky MLA Jordan Sturdy will be sharing the transportation and infrastructure critic portfolio with Vancouver-Langara MLA Michael Lee.

As critics, it will be Thornthwaite and Sturdy’s jobs to grill the NDP government in the legislature and in the media.

In a message posted to Facebook, Thornthwaite said she was honoured to receive the appointment and that the issue was “near and dear to her heart.”

Thornthwaite previously served as parliamentary secretary for child mental health and anti-bullying in the last term when the Liberals held government.

“In my role as a Government MLA, I saw first-hand the Opposition attack our policies with vigour, often with no possible solutions or suggestions. Our experienced B.C. Liberal team is ready to hold the new government to account. I'm up for the challenge and look forward to our fall sitting in the legislature,” she wrote.
