Two West Vancouver residents were briefly hospitalized for smoke inhalation after a fire ripped through the roof of a home on the 2300 block of Kings Avenue Saturday night.

From his vantage point about 400 metres up the hill, neighbour Louis Fourie reported seeing smoke rising through roof vents as West Vancouver firefighters rushed to the scene shortly before 10 p.m.

It took 28 firefighters working through the evening and aiming water down on the roof from the ladder truck before the scene was cleared at approximately 3 a.m.

All five occupants of the home made it out in time, according to West Vancouver assistant fire chief Jeff Bush. The two residents hospitalized for smoke inhalation were subsequently released.

The department began an investigation into the cause of the fire on Monday.

“We have no idea as of yet,” Bush said.
