A commercial building in Edgemont Village was targeted by vandals who drew a swastika on concrete and dumped a red sticky substance over a statue earlier this month. “Everyone was quite appalled and shocked,” said Michael Gunion, operations supervisor for the Edgemont Commons building, which houses BlueShore Financial.

The incident took place Nov. 4 around 8:40 p.m.

Gunion said four vandals were captured in the act on the building’s video surveillance system.

He added the substance poured over the statue of a boy riding a fish left the appearance that the statue was covered in blood.

The damage was quickly cleaned up after it was discovered, but Gunion said residents should be alert for any similar acts of vandalism, particularly any involving “symbols of hate.”

North Vancouver RCMP are investigating the incident.
