Students looking for a free ride will find one this week – on public transit.

Starting today, children and youth in Metro Vancouver can jump on board TransLink buses for free, as part of the ninth annual I Love Transit Week.

Designed as a chance to encourage a life-long interest in public transit, the opportunity is open to students from kindergarten through Grade 12 on all TransLink buses until the end of service on Friday. The offer does not extend to SkyTrain, SeaBus and West Coast Express users.

Teachers often take advantage of free transit week to arrange field trips for their classes, travelling on transit, according to a TransLink press release.

As part of I Love Transit Week, students can win an all-inclusive field trip to attend I Love Transit Camp – a behind-the-scenes look at SkyTrain and bus fleet facilities.

TransLink is also offering a chance for 11 classes to win up to 35 DayPasses per class for travel on a day of their choice. A DayPass provides unlimited transit use on all buses, SkyTrain and SeaBus.
