A North Vancouver home was damaged Friday evening when a recycling truck veered into a driveway and collided with a house.

After making a left on Weymouth Drive, a Smithrite recycling truck rolled up a driveway and smashed into a home in the 700 block of Weymouth Drive, according to North Vancouver RCMP spokesman Cpl. Richard De Jong.

Upon hearing the impact, homeowner Jodi Beattie ran out of the house to check on the driver.

“My priority was just to make sure nobody was hurt,” she said. “We were so very grateful that the driver was safe, my family was safe.”

The structural damage to the house is being assessed.

The truck was parked on the driveway overnight “until we could ensure its safe extraction,” Beattie explained.

“This is a first for all of us,” she said.

The driver of the Freightliner was written up for driving without due care.

Beattie lauded Smithrite Recycling for their clear communication and efforts to resolve the issue promptly.
