Quick action by a West Vancouver police officer averted a serious opioid overdose on Monday evening.

The West Vancouver officer was dispatched to the 300 block of Skawshen Drive around 8:20 p.m. after several incomplete 911 calls were received.

With help from the cellphone provider, the calls were traced to that address.

When the police officer arrived, he found a 39-year-old man lying in the road in medical distress, said Const. Jeff Palmer, spokesman for the West Vancouver Police Department.

Fortunately the man was not in cardiac arrest, although he appeared to be overdosing.

The officer was able to administer some naloxone nasal spray to the man.

After that, the man regained consciousness and was taken to hospital.
