Pandemic no immunity from speeding tickets

Driver clocked going twice highway speed limit in North Van
speeding ticket

A pandemic does not give drivers immunity from speeding tickets.

One 19-year-old man from Vancouver found that out this week when his newer model BMW X3 was impounded after getting clocked going over twice the speed limit on Highway 1 near the Westview exit in North Vancouver.

A North Vancouver RCMP officer who was ticketing speeders on that stretch of the highway registered the vehicle’s speed at 167 kilometres an hour as it flew by in an 80 km/hr zone.

The officer pulled the driver over and handed him a ticket.

Speeders caught doing over 60 km/hr over the posted speed limit can be fined up to $483 and are also liable for an additional “driver risk premium” on their insurance, which in this case worked out to $461 per year.

Now the car is being quarantined against excessive speed for seven days in an impound lot.
