A 28-year-old North Vancouver woman who lists her occupation as a Playboy model will be one of 25 women vying for the love of a 28-year-old former Edmonton Eskimos player when the Canadian version of The Bachelor airs in October.

Melissa Marie Peters, a single mother, lingerie model and actor from North Vancouver is one of five bachelorettes announced by CityTV this week who will be competing for the affections of Brad Smith.

In a profile posted to the Bachelor site, Peters, described as a "voluptuous Playboy model" said it was her mom and daughter's idea for her to try out for the show.

Peters will be competing for the CFL-er's heart on the reality show along with a 25-year-old religious pastor from Sylvan Lake, Alberta, and a 27-year-old Toronto real estate agent nicknamed "Bubba" who says friends describe her as "bodacious, crazy, quirky," and adds she's looking for a man who is "well endowed and has a great sense of humour."

The nine-episode series features the competing contestants living under lockdown in a luxurious Victoria mansion for the duration of the shoot, in which they go on "romantic and adventurous journeys" while Smith gets to know the women.

Under the Bachelor formula, at least one woman will be eliminated from the show on each episode.

The finale - in which Smith will choose one woman to continue a relationship with and will possibly propose - is kept a closely guarded secret.

Smith, who played for the Montreal Alouettes and Toronto Argonauts as well as the Eskimos between 2007 and 2011 is described by the producers as being "incredibly charismatic" as well as "down to earth."

He is said to be attracted to "independent intelligent women" who are "comfortable in their own skin."
