For those times when a police report is needed but a police officer isn’t, the North Vancouver RCMP is introducing online crime reporting.

Thefts and acts of vandalism below the $5,000 threshold, as well as hit-and-runs that damage empty vehicles, can now be reported at https://ocre-sielc.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/nvan/en

The introduction page includes a message reading: “Your report will not be followed up by a police officer.”

The system is designed to ensure frontline officers focus on priority investigations.

The online system does not apply to crimes in which there’s a witness, suspect, or if stolen items include ID cards, firearms, licence plates or decals.

Reports are expected to take about 15 minutes, according to a release from North Vancouver RCMP media relations officer Sgt. Peter DeVries.

Following an email verification and further information, a report is filed and the victim is provided a file number.

The application is designed to work on Windows and macOS desktop computers as well as any mobile device. It will operate best using the following browsers: Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Safari.
