North Van music teacher charged with child porn, sexual assault

The Crown has now sworn a host of charges against a North Vancouver music teacher following allegations of sexual misconduct with underage girls.

Lamar Victor Alviar was arrested in August after one teen came forward to Coquitlam RCMP. Police released Alviar’s name and picture to the public in thinking other potential witnesses or victims would may forward.

Alviar had been operating ‘LA Music Studio’ on the 100 block of East 14th Street in Central Lonsdale.

As of Oct. 7, Alviar has been charged with one count of possession of child pornography, one count of communication with a minor to facilitate a sexual offence, three counts of sexual touching of a minor and three counts of sexual assault.

“These charges are based on the allegations and statements of three victims and of course, subsequent witnesses,” said Cpl. Michael McLaughlin, Coquitlam RCMP spokesman. “We’re dealing with allegations that stretch over three municipalities. They don’t include North Van. They include Coqtuilam, Burnaby and Vancouver.”

McLaughlin said police are always eager to hear from more potential victims or witnesses but, for the time being, they do not foresee any further charges related to the case.

“If you believe that you’ve witnessed or been the victim of any sexual offence, please do not hesitate to call your local police,” McLaughlin’s release stated.
