You’ve got mail theft.

North Vancouver RCMP are asking the public to help ID some suspects caught on camera breaking into a Lower Lonsdale condo’s panel of mailboxes.

Police have released surveillance footage of the Feb. 17 break-in that shows three masked men letting themselves into the lobby at 124 West First St. and forcing the mail slots open with a pry bar. They later fled in a silver SUV.

“You can tell from the video that they’ve done this before,” said Sgt. Peter DeVries, North Vancouver RCMP spokesman. “They’re organized, completely disguised, and they work quickly. Somebody knows them, and we’re asking that person to contact us.”

Typically the brute force of stealing the mail is just a means to the more serious identity theft, particularly this time of year when tax forms are being delivered and may contain a treasure trove of sensitive information like an individual’s full name, date of birth, social insurance number, signature, mother’s maiden name and driver’s licence number.

Anyone with information about the theft is asked to contact North Vancouver RCMP at 604-985-1311 or remain anonymous and deliver a tip to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
