On June 1, let the kids play.

All three North Shore municipalities and both school districts will begin reopening their playgrounds Monday after more than two months of closures due to COVID-19.

“With COVID-19 cases in B.C. now declining, and the encouragement from the provincial health officer to safely enjoy the outdoors, outdoor recreation facilities across the North Shore began re-opening in mid-May,” a joint statement from the five local government branches read on Thursday. “Crews are preparing to welcome the community back to outdoor playgrounds.”

Spokespersons from all three municipalities said it may take a few days for parks staff to get all of the signs, caution tape and barricades removed but the work should all be done by mid-week.

Once the jungle gyms and swings are reopened, visitors will find new signs reminding them of some important public health and liability messages.

“Users should follow public health guidelines including maintaining a two-metre physical distance and washing or sanitizing hands before and after use. While the playground equipment will be inspected prior to opening, it will not be sanitized,” the statement read.
