Traffic delays are expected along Highway 99 through West Vancouver tomorrow as 4,000 cyclists hit the road for the GranFondo Whistler. The race, which starts in Stanley Park and ends in Whistler, will delay traffic between 5:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on the route for up to three hours – but West Van traffic delays are expected between 5:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.

Lions Gate Bridge will be closed to northbound traffic 5:30-8:30 a.m. and drivers are asked to use Ironworkers Memorial instead. One southbound lane will be open on Lions Gate and can be accessed from Marine Drive in West Vancouver.

Marine Drive between Capilano Road and Taylor Way will be closed to westbound traffic 5:30-8:30 a.m., during which time traffic will be rerouted to Lower Capilano, Welch Street, Wardance Street and Taylor Way.

The intersection of Marine Drive and Taylor Way will be restricted from time to time between 5:30 and 10 a.m., and both eastbound lanes on Highway 1 will be closed between Taylor Way and Horseshoe Bay. Drivers are asked to use Marine Drive when travelling eastbound.

Between 6 and 8:30 a.m., Cypress Bowl Road will have reduced speeds as 400 cyclists ride up and down the road with police escorts. Drivers are asked to avoid the road during this time.

Between 5:30 and 11 a.m., traffic westbound on Highway 1 and northbound on Highway 99 will be detoured via Exit 2 to Horseshoe Bay Drive (Old Highway 99), and enter Highway 99 northbound at the Pasco Road access point.

Ferry traffic and Horseshoe Bay traffic will be re-routed through West Vancouver along Marine Drive from 5:30 to 9:30 a.m.

Traffic southbound on Highway 99 will be detoured at the Pasco Road exit via Horseshoe Bay Drive to Marine Drive from 5:30 to 11 a.m.

This is the ninth year the GranFondo Whistler is taking place on the 122-kilometre course along the Sea-to-Sky Highway. Participants in the race are expected from 45 countries.

Cyclists will be leaving Stanley Park at 7 a.m.
