Five people have been displaced from their home in North Vancouver, following a house fire in the 1300-block of Grand Boulevard Wednesday night.

Firefighters were called to the two-storey home about 7 p.m.

“Crews arrived to heavy smoke and flames coming from the rear of the home,”said Jason DeRoy, assistant fire chief with the City of North Vancouver Fire Department. “Flames were coming out of the patio door.”

Five people were home at the time the fire broke out, including three people in an upstairs living area and two people in two separate downstairs suites.

All of the residents made it out of the home.

Two people suffered minor burns to their lower legs and feet and were treated by BC Ambulance paramedics and taken to Lions Gate Hospital.

DeRoy said the fire appeared to start in the kitchen on the second floor of the house and quickly spread to the ceiling and attic area.

DeRoy said insurance adjusters and restoration crews were on scene Wednesday night assessing smoke and water damage.

It’s too early to say for how long the residents will be out of their home, he added.

A total of 14 firefighters from the city and nine firefighters from the district were on the scene and quickly got the fire under control, said DeRoy.
