A 24-year-old construction worker died today after being crushed by a dump truck.

The Vancouver man was working at a residential demolition site on Timberline Place near Handsworth Road, in North Vancouver's Canyon Heights neighbourhood, where workers were loading house debris into the dump truck. The man was working close to the dump truck when he was knocked down and the dump truck rolled over him, according to police. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

North Vancouver RCMP, the coroners service and WorkSafe BC are all investigating, according to RCMP Cpl. Richard De Jong.

“WorkSafe BC will be looking at all aspects of the operations of the site, whether (proper) procedures were taken or not taken,” De Jong said.

The excavation company that owns the dump truck declined to comment.
