City of North Van nixes hot dog carts at the Shipyards

It’ll be a long, hot, hot dog-less summer at the Shipyards this year.

It’ll be a long, hot, hot dog-less summer at the Shipyards this year.

Three possible hot dog cart locations on the waterfront were wiped off the map like mustard from a frankfurter following a unanimous vote by City of North Vancouver council June 24.

The three spots had been picked as placeholders while a new management team was formed to decide which rolling food vendors are the right fit for the waterfront in the future, according to a city staff report.

The decision is intended to create a “clean slate” and to avoid conflict between day-to-day operations and forthcoming policy, explained city business manager Larry Orr.

Subject to council approval, the waterfront management team will decide: “about the style of food vendors, where they go, how they’ll operate,” Orr told council.

Hot dog vendors can serve up by Kings Mill Walk Park, along Central Lonsdale, at Waterfront Park and just north of the Shipyards.
