TORONTO — Jonathan David and Christine Sinclair have been named Canada Soccer’s players of the month for May.

David became the first Canadian to win the Ligue 1 championship in France, scoring the opening goal in the win that clinched the title on the final day of the season. Sinclair, the world's all-time leading international goal-scorer, led the Portland Thorns to the NWSL Challenge Cup title while adding to her scoring exploits.

David, a 21-year-old forward from Ottawa, upped his season goals total to 13 — a record for a Canadian in a top-five men’s European league (England, France, Germany, Italy and Spain). Tomasz Radzinski had held the previous record at 12.

Sinclair scored her career 60th NWSL goal in all competitions on May 8, recording the opening goal of the 2021 NWSL Challenge Cup final. The 37-year-old from Burnaby, B.C., then scored her 50th NWSL regular-season goal on May 16 in the opening match of the 2021 season.
