The North Van Wolf Pack showed well in their opening week, starting the season on the road with an overtime loss against the powerhouse Richmond Sockeyes before beating the Ridge Meadow Flames in their home opener.
The season started with a bang on Thursday night as the Wolf Pack raced out to a 5-2 lead in Richmond before the Sockeyes stormed back with three third-period goals to send it into overtime. The Sockeyes then won it in the first overtime frame with Nicolas Bizzutto scoring his second goal of the game.
Justin Lee and Caleb Holonko each had three points for North Van while goaltender Alex Forster had a busy night with the Sockeyes outshooting the Pack 44-19.
On Saturday the Pack sent the crowd home happy with a 5-4 win over the Flames at Harry Jerome Recreation Centre.
Lee led the way again with a hat trick and an assist, given him seven points through the first two games. New team captain Mitchell Ledyard picked up three assists in the win. It was also a night of firsts with rookies Nathan Haakma and Shea Robertson scoring their first PJHL goals and goaltender Jono Holloway picking up his first PJHL win.
Lee, Holonko, Nathan McCarnan and Geoffrey So were named assistant captains prior to the start of the season.
The Wolf Pack will be on the road Wednesday playing the league’s newest franchise, the Langley Trappers, before hosting the Grandview Steelers Saturday night starting a 7 p.m. at Harry Jerome.
