Whistler firefighters respond to a gas leak at a lot on Beaver Lane Wednesday.

Whistler Fire Rescue Service crews were called to a property on Beaver Lane late Wednesday morning to deal with a reported gas leak that officials say is now under control.

The incident occurred after an excavator hit a natural gas line while installing services to the Whistler Cay lot, said deputy fire chief Chris Nelson, but was quickly contained by firefighters.

"It's been closed off so it's no longer an issue," Nelson said.

Whistler's current fire danger rating as of July 14 is listed as "extreme." Restrictions on campfires and open burning remain in effect throughout B.C.
