West Vancouver plans safety building

THE District of West Vancouver revealed preliminary plans for a new public safety building at 17th Street between Fulton and Esquimalt Avenues at an April 8 council meeting.

THE District of West Vancouver revealed preliminary plans for a new public safety building at 17th Street between Fulton and Esquimalt Avenues at an April 8 council meeting.

The building would include the fire hall and police station, connecting both services to municipal hall by a shared, two-storey atrium.

With the Grosvenor development possibly taking shape on the 1300-block of Marine Drive in Ambleside, the district has needed to find a new home for its police station.

If approved, the current fire hall would cross 16th street and be located at the southwest corner of the public safety building at 17th St. and Esquimalt

The area north of municipal hall would be used for surface parking to cut down on the need for an underground garage.

The public can offer their two cents on the design, beginning with an open house scheduled for April 24.

A final schematic is slated to be submitted for council approval in May.
