Two Vancouver police officers stabbed while responding to 911 call

Two Vancouver Police Department officers were stabbed this morning.

Two Vancouver police officers are now in stable condition after being stabbed this morning, July 5.

The pair were responding to a 911 call around 10 a.m. about a two-year-old child being forcibly confined in a residence near the intersection of Keefer Street and Gore Avenue, according to a press release from the Vancouver Police Department (VPD).

"When they entered the suite, a struggle ensued with the suspect and two officers were stabbed," state the VPD. "During the altercation, officers deployed a taser on the 59-year-old suspect."

They describe the stabbings as "serious."

All three were taken to hospital. The officers are in stable condition; the police don't comment in the release on the suspect's current condition.

The child is safe the VPD adds in an email to Vancouver is Awesome.

The investigation is continuing and the Independent Investigations Office of B.C. has been alerted to the incident.
