Surrey woman dies at Porteau Cove

Porteau Cove is a popular location for scuba divers and star gazers.

 A Surrey woman has died after authorities responded to a call of a possible drowning at Porteau Cove on Saturday.

RCMP officers said in a news release that on May 14, at about 10:50 a.m., officers were called to assist with the incident.

The RCMP and the Coast Guard, Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue, BC Ambulance and Britannia Beach Fire Rescue responded.

Despite rescue efforts, the woman succumbed to her injuries and died at the scene, police said. Criminality is not suspected in her death.

The BC Coroners Service is investigating.

BC Emergency Health Services told The Squamish Chief that two paramedic ground units, a supervisor and an air ambulance responded to the scene.

No other information was made available.
