With vaccinations continuing to accelerate in all regions of B.C., cities are hoping to host some form of safe physically distanced events to celebrate Canada’s 154th birthday.
In Coquitlam, there are events on the docket that provide limited in-person and virtual options, and now, it’s calling on local restaurants to join the fold this summer.
The city says it’s offering the chance for more than 10 establishments to participate in its scheduled online Canada Day and Summer Concert series.
In a news release, those selected businesses will be promoted across the Tri-Cities’ #SupportLocal campaign as well as specific pages on the city of Coquitlam’s website and social media channels.
“This may include highlighting Canada Day specials your business may offer and other business highlights,” the release explains. “The city will also purchase gift certificates from participating local restaurants for a Facebook contest giveaway.”
In anticipation of the regulations being relaxed, Coquitlam is planning to offer a mix of events in July and August:
- Canada Day
- Motorists can take a drive-thru around the Douglas College parking lot to hear DJ music, see roving performers and get information about local multi-cultural groups on July 1
- Participants will also get a Canada Day kit to decorate their vehicle
- Summer Concert Series
- Registrants can go to a drive-in to watch one of four live shows between June 26 and Sept. 4, which will be recorded and posted online; the shows may pivot to a limited in-person event, if permitted
- Kaleidoscope Arts Festival
- Returning to its original Aug. 14 date, the city will open the annual fest to a limited number of registrants to see the music and arts entertainment
Interested restaurants must submit an application by May 30 to festivalsandevents@coquitlam.ca.
The following details must be included:
- Name and contact information
- Name of restaurant
- Website address and social media handles
- Type of foods offered
- How long the business has been operating in the city of Coquitlam.
- A specific dish for promotion with an original unedited photo
- Details on providing a potential Canada Day or Summer Concert Series special
