Seriously injured elderly pedestrian sent to hospital following Coquitlam collision

RCMP say as an investigation continues into the Labour Day weekend accident that hit an 87-year-old man.

Coquitlam RCMP is investigating after an 87-year-old pedestrian was struck by a vehicle over the Labour Day long weekend.

Spokesperson Const. Deanna Law confirms to the Tri-City News the elderly man was sent to hospital with serious injuries after first responders were called out around 10:40 a.m. on Saturday (Sept. 4).

Police believe the man was hit in the aftermath of a two-vehicle collision on 1100-block Pipeline Road when one vehicle went onto the sidewalk after it was struck by another.

The cause of the accident remains unknown as of this publication (Sept. 7).

According to witnesses, the stretch of Pipeline Road between Glen Drive and Guildford Way was closed for several hours while traffic officers collected evidence and took statements.

Law adds the investigation is ongoing and no other details are being released at this time.
