Sentencing hearing moved for man guilty in Amanda Todd 'sextortion' case

Aydin Coban was convicted on all five charges against him, and will now wait until October to find out how much time he'll serve.

A 44-year-old man will now wait three more weeks to find out how long he'll serve time after he was convicted in a "sextortion" case related to a Port Coquitlam teen's death almost 10 years ago.

Today (Sept. 20), a B.C. Supreme Court judge in New Westminster adjourned Aydin Coban's sentencing hearing to Oct. 11 to 14.

The Dutch national was found guilty on five charges on Aug. 6 connected to Amanda Todd's suicide at the age of 15:

  • extortion
  • importing and distributing child pornography
  • possession of child pornography
  • communicating with the intent to lure a child
  • criminal harassment

A jury shared its verdict 10 hours after Justice Martha Devlin charged them to convene and examine the evidence presented in New Westminster court.

A total of 80 exhibits and 30 witness testimonies were presented over nine weeks between June and August, including nine experts that flew to B.C. from the Netherlands, Australia and New York to attend the trial.
