UPDATE: Power reportedly restored to more than 1,800 BC Hydro customers in Coquitlam

More than 1,800 BC Hydro customers in Coquitlam's town centre area are without power as of 12:15 p.m. on Nov. 16, 2021.

It appears power is back on in Coquitlam's town centre area.

Residents say BC Hydro has put its customers back on the grid after 1,822 were without power for roughly two hours today (Nov. 16).

The cause of the outage remains unknown.

12:30 p.m.

Thousands are without power in Coquitlam this afternoon (Nov. 16).

As of 12 p.m., a significant portion of the city's town centre core — 1,822 customers to be exact — is in the dark with no electricity

The affected area stretches from south of Whitepine Place and east of Mariner Way to west of Tuohey Avenue and north of Barnet Highway.

BC Hydro says crews are en route to investigate the cause of the outage and try to restore power as soon as possible.

The provincial company expects workers to arrive after 1 p.m.
