Police are warning people to give themselves plenty of extra time on Black Friday and this weekend if they plan on going anywhere near Vancouver International Airport.

Traffic in the area around and leading to YVR is expected to be chaotic at best over the next few days, due to the Black Friday sales at nearby McArthurGlen shopping outlet.

In past years, traffic has ground to a near standstill going in and out of the mall and Richmond RCMP is asking drivers and people flying out of the airport to allow for more time as it anticipates “higher than normal traffic on Sea Island.”

The RCMP says it will have additional officers in the area around the mall and airport to assist with traffic flow.

According to police, the following are the key dates and times where higher volumes are expected:

Friday Nov. 25: 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.;

Saturday Nov. 26: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.;

Sunday Nov. 27: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The RCMP recommends following @yvrairport or visiting yvr.ca for updates regarding impacts for those travelling to YVR.
