Richmond RCMP has a new superintendent, Julie Drotar, who will be starting at the Richmond detachment within the next few months.
Drotar was introduced to council on Tuesday at its community safety meeting.
Will Ng, the officer in charge of the Richmond RCMP, has been promoted to chief superintendent.
The Richmond RCMP has increased its staffing by 74 officers over the past five years, which has precipitated the need for more managers, Ng explained.
Drotar has been an RCMP officer for 28 years and has worked in the past for the federal proceeds of crime unit as well as in criminal intelligence.
She has been at the Coquitlam detachment for the past five years but is currently on loan to the Lower Mainland District managing the Sunshine Coast, UBC and Mission detachments.
“I’m ready to take on this new challenge,” Drotar told the committee on Tuesday.
